Built for financial freedom
MoneyBrain is an open-source personal finance system designed for people who value privacy, correctness, and data ownership.
Why we built MoneyBrain
We believe managing money shouldn't require giving up your privacy. Most personal finance apps sync your data to the cloud, track your behavior, and lock you into their ecosystem. We wanted something different.
MoneyBrain is built on a simple principle: your financial data belongs to you. It runs on your server, stores data in a local database, and never phones home. There's no telemetry, no analytics, and no third-party integrations that compromise your privacy.
We focus on correctness over cleverness. Every feature is designed to be predictable and deterministic. Your account balances will always match your expectations because we enforce strict invariants: transactions can't be modified after reconciliation, transfers always affect exactly two accounts, and split transactions must always balance.
Privacy First
Your data stays on your server. No cloud sync, no tracking.
Correctness
Strict invariants ensure your books always balance.
Simplicity
Clean interface focused on what matters, not flashy features.
Open Source
Inspect the code, contribute, or fork it for your needs.
What MoneyBrain is not
We focus on doing a few things well rather than being everything to everyone
No Bank Sync
We don't connect to banks or financial institutions. Import your data via CSV to maintain full control.
No Business Accounting
MoneyBrain is for personal finance. No invoicing, payroll, or accounts receivable features.
No Tax Filing
We help you track spending, not file taxes. Consult a professional for tax advice.
No AI Advice
We show you the numbers clearly. We don't generate financial advice or recommendations.
Built with modern technology
MoneyBrain is built with .NET 10, Blazor, and MudBlazor for a fast, responsive experience. SQLite provides a simple, file-based database that's easy to backup and portable.
The codebase prioritizes clarity over cleverness. We use nullable reference types, structured logging, and follow clean architecture principles. Contributions are welcome!
